The New York Knicks have had an eventful offseason thus far. While the team attempts to trade Carmelo Anthony, the most important subject matter for the Knicks is the future of their star center Kristaps Porzingis.
Porzingis was often an afterthought during his rookie and sophomore seasons due to speculation over Anthony, among other distractions. At the end of the season, Porzingis skipped his exit interview with the now fired Phil Jackson. The former President admitted to entertaining trade offers for the big man.
Despite all the events of the past few months, Porzingis seems to harbor no hard feelings for the franchise that drafted him.
Here’s Porzinigis’ response to a child at his basketball camp in Latvia (translation via the New York Post):
“I feel that it is the best place to win. And if you win in New York, you are king. For the last two years, I have had so many positive emotions here that this is where I want to stay and that this is where I want to win.”
Jackson’s dismissal and the seemingly imminent trade of Melo may have had an effect on Porzingis’ answer. Nevertheless, Knicks fans should be pleased that the best young player they’ve had in quite a while wants to stay in New York.
