Well, Kobe Bryant may have found another way to alienate himself from humanity with his recent remarks about the Miami Heat support of the late Trayvon Martin.
Kobe Bean Bryant is entitled to his opinions, and to be honest, he makes a salient point in regards that we shouldn’t always jump up to support something involving an African-Americans so blindly. However, in the case of Trayvon Martin I feel Kobe missed the boat with these comments.
The New Yorker has a profile on the Lakers star coming out March 31st; this is what Bryant had to say when the subject of the Heat wearing hoodies in honor of Martin.
“I won’t react to something just because I’m supposed to, because I’m an African-American,” he said. “That argument doesn’t make any sense to me. So we want to advance as a society and a culture, but, say, if something happens to an African-American we immediately come to his defense? Yet you want to talk about how far we’ve progressed as a society? Well, we’ve progressed as a society, then don’t jump to somebody’s defense just because they’re African-American. You sit and you listen to the facts just like you would in any other situation, right? So I won’t assert myself.”
Like I said, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but some opinions leave you scratching your head.
