The battle for the worst coaching job continues as several coaches who at this point would do anything to get a job are trying to make cases via interviews.
One of the candidates is Henry Bibby. I know what you’re thinking. “Who’s Henry Bibby?”. As it turns out, he’s Mike Bibby’s father. If you then say “But who’s Mike Bibby?” I can only help you so much. Google it.
Anyways, Henry Bibby has been all over the place in his coaching career, from the WNBA to USC to the CBA (Continental Basketball Association) he’s been everywhere, except a head coaching job in the NBA. He poses some positives, he already has connections in Sacramento such as Rudy Gay & Rajon Rondo. He also has the luxury of the history his son Mike has with the Kings. But none of that matters if he isn’t good in DeMarcus Cousins’ book. Henry Bibby believes that, if given the opportunity, he can reach and connect to DMC.
“What I’m trying to get back is what Vlade used to have up there, the old Sacramento Kings,” Bibby said. “I want to get that back again, that excitement. They played as a team. They ran that corner offense, and that’s what I’d run. I’d put (center) DeMarcus (Cousins) where Vlade was (on offense), and you play basketball with (Rajon) Rondo, (Ben) McLemore and guys like that.”
Bibby said Cousins is maturing and that he could help Cousins become the team’s leader.
“He’s so good, he expects everybody else to be that good,” Bibby said. “That’s what (stars) expect. I played with Julius Erving, Pete Maravich, all these guys who think (everyone) should be as good. … That’s what he has to realize: People can’t do what he does, and he has to let people do what they can do and be OK with it. At the end of the game, we’re going to give him the ball and let him do it, and that’s what going to happen.”
Not only all that. He also believes that he can help DMC with temperament, lessening the fines and keep that cash in Cousins’ wallet.
And it doesn’t stop there. If he becomes the Kings head coach, expect Mike Bibby to be in his fathers staff.
I got to say those are some good statements. Statements that nobody else has said. But maybe there’s a reason why nobody else has said it. Maybe Sacramento are unsolvable? But by all means Henry Bibby, give it a go.
