It appears that Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio will not be making an Academy Awards push in 2023. Deadline has reported that Scorsese and DiCaprio’s upcoming film, Killers of the Flower Moon, will not be released in time to be considered for the upcoming Academy Awards. Instead, it appears that the film will debut at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival in May. Streaming and theatrical release rollouts would ensue in the following weeks.
“The Eric Roth-scripted fact-based drama follows a series of mysterious murders of wealthy Osage Native Americans, this after deposits of oil were discovered under their land. The subsequent investigation led to the foundation of the FBI,” the film’s description reads.
DiCaprio and Scorsese have built a strong relationship throughout the years. They first worked together on Gangs of New York in 2002. Since then, the duo has produced projects like The Departed, Shutter Island, The Aviator and The Wolf of Wall Street. Given their track record, it’s possible that the two will produce yet another critically-acclaimed film in 2023.
