As of late, the Barry Jenkins led adaptation of If Beale Street Could Talk has picked up a lot of steam heading into Oscar season. The film’s performance at the box office has picked up and Regina King picked up a Golden Globe for “Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture”. Going in to next week, fans of the film will undoubtedly be honing in on the announcement of the final Oscar nominees. However, those on screen are already moving forward. Regina King is preparing for her role in Watchmen, Stefan James is wrapping up production of 17 Bridges and Barry Jenkins is one of the most in demand men in Hollywood. Alongside the rest of her cast, Kiki Layne of If Beale Street Could Talk is definitely on the same type of time as the rest of her cast heading into the new year.

During a recent interview with Variety, Layne was asked about her character, Tish Rivers, in If Beale Street Could Talk and she said, “She was an image of myself, of a powerful chocolate Black woman, and I just think that’s an amazing image to have, and I really want to play Storm.” She later added, “Oh, yeah. We are actively plotting.” Disney is looking to develop a new X-Men film in 2019, so Layne could very well get her wish.
