As a “sneakerhead” growing up you cherished having the latest and hottest kicks whether it be Jordan’s or Nike’s. For me I usually was always on top of the new releases as a kid but I never had to fear the possibility of being robbed for my shoes. Now that doesn’t exempt me from it ever still happening as nowadays we live in a society where getting the sneaker by any means necessary is the objective. As for this upcoming film ‘Kicks’, the story being told here follows an inner city youth who struggles with his identity and wants to feel of some importance. So he gets together his hard-earned money to purchase a pair of Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG ‘Bred’, the most coveted Air Jordan ever.
Thinking he turned his life around with his purchase, he is ultimately robbed for his shoes. This situation is very similar to a song Wale released a video for off his album ‘TAAN’, ‘The White Shoes’. With the constant violence taking place now for sneakers, I feel a film like this is necessary to bring forth an awareness of importance.
The movie ‘Kicks’ stars Notorious B.I.G’s son CJ Wallace and fellow up and coming actor Jahking Guillory.
Look for ‘Kicks’ in theaters this September 9th.
