The Houston Rockets have signed guard Kevin Porter Jr to a four-year extension worth up to $82.5 million. His new deal is only guaranteed for $15.86 million and it all comes in the first year of his extension. It seems the Houston Rockets have signed their young guard to a fairly large “prove it” deal in the middle of a complete franchise rebuild. The Rockets can effectively release the guard with no penalty each year if they do it before the June trigger dates. This deal will help determine if the guard is a part of the franchise heading into the future.

Last season with the Houston Rockets, Kevin Porter Jr averaged 15.6 points, 6.2 assists, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game. He paired those numbers with a field goal percentage of 41.5 percent and a three-point percentage of 37.5 percent. His second year with the Rockets proved fruitful and the franchise beag into saw how he can help them in the long term. Houston’s rebuild is still in the process of being completed, but Porter Jr needed an extension this year before the season began.

The Houston Rockets believe in Kevin Porter Jr enough to give him a chance to earn his place on the team each season. This deal seems ideal for both sides assuming he continues to perform at his current level. The NBA season is about to begin and this deal allows them to focus on that.
