The Kentucky Wildcats this year were pretty underwhelming considering the high bar they have given themselves over the past few years. They had some good players but nobody that made you say “They’re a Final Four lock” or “This kid is special”.
But like I said, it may not be last year’s Kentucky or Anthony Davis’ Kentucky, but it’s Kentucky nevertheless and that’s always good. It also means they’ll have their “1 & Done’s”, Which is why I’m not surprised that Jamal Murray is heading to the Draft.
Cats coach John Calipari, who molded Murray into a more efficient scorer and often lethal weapon by the end of last season, “did his part, too,” Murray said. “He made me better. He made me play winning basketball and make winning plays.”
“I had the feeling that I did want to stay,” he said. “Obviously, you want to come back and you want to get revenge and play harder than you did before. But it was just the right decision … to enter the draft.”
“Jamal is one of the greatest kids. The improvement he showed over the course of the season may be unmatched by anyone I’ve ever coached. He grew into a true winner and one of the most efficient scorers. What I love about Jamal is he’s a great teammate who has a smile on his face every day. I’m going to really miss coaching him.”
Calipari always has something good to say about his players, Jamal Murray is a great scorer and hopefully that translates in the NBA.
