The Minnesota Timberwolves are on the verge of taking a monumental step forward. Armed with young talent, an elite coach, and veteran pieces to fill out the roster, the Wolves are ready to surprise some people.
At the heart of the Wolves organization is Karl-Anthony Towns. Last year’s unanimous rookie of the year is one of the most unique prospects in a long time. A center with ball-handling and shooting ability paired with defensive instincts and skill, Towns is going to be a great player for a long time.
But the success that Towns enjoyed in his rookie season is not enough. In an interview with USA TODAY Sports’ Larry Berger (h/t HoopsHype), Towns expressed his desire to bring championships to Minnesota. And to him, that time is coming soon.
Most fans believe the Wolves are still a little far away from actually contending. However, they do have an outside chance at the playoffs next season and Towns has set his sights on that goal.
Towns expressed excitement with Kris Dunn joining the Wolves, saying “he fits the Thibodeau scheme perfectly.” Dunn is the latest in a long line of talented, young players in Minnesota who can help the team reach new heights.
With Dunn and others on board, Towns sounds confident about his team competing right away. The big man boldly claims that the Wolves “have a good chance and I think we got it now. We don’t need many more years. We could do it right now.”
Towns’ confidence in his team should be music to Wolves’ fans ears. Whether the team reaches the playoffs next season or not, they have found the player and leader to eventually take them there.
As Karl-Anthony Towns put it best, “it’s an exciting time to be a T-Wolves fan.”
