CNN has found the next person to fill its 9 p.m. EST evening news slot. Beginning July 10, Kaitlan Collins will host The Source. According to a report from Deadline, the show “will expose uncovered angles and challenge conventional wisdom to make sure viewers are seeing a story from every side. Collins is a straight-shooting, deeply sourced reporter, always willing to hold the powerful accountable.”
Collins will step into a primetime evening news position previously held by Chris Cuomo. In the highly-competitive news hour, Collins’ show will compete with The Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC and Jesse Watters on FOX News. FOX News still holds the highest ratings during the evening block while MSNBC’s 9 p.m. EST viewership has grown 15% in recent months. In contrast, CNN’s primetime ratings among viewers between the ages of 25 and 54 declined by 19% during the second quarter of 2023.
Elsewhere, CNN will attempt to solidify the remaining sections of its evening program schedule. Leading up to The Source, Erin Burnett and Anderson Cooper will continue to host their hourlong programs. After Collins, CNN has experimented with Abby Phillip hosting the 10 p.m. EST block and Alisyn Camerota spearheading the 11 p.m. EST block.
