This past holiday season, Sony Pictures bought the 1995 classic kids film, Jumanji, back to the big screen. Starring Kevin Hart, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jack Black, the 2017 version did quite well at the box office. In its opening weekend, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle collected $60 million at the box office. As of this month, the film has earned $962 million worldwide. As a result, the film is an undeniable commercial success that any major film producer would want to make a sequel of.
This week, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson announced on Instagram that the film is set to release the sequel on December 13th, 2019. The sequel to Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle will bring back Hart, Johnson, Black and Karen Gillan. Behind the scenes, Jake Kasdan will return to the director’s chair and Matt Tolmach will reprise his role as producer alongside the Seven Bucks Production team.
The film will join the likes of Star Wars: Episode IX, Masters of the Universe and Wicked as blockbuster films to be released during the 2019 holiday season. There is no timetable on when the film will begin production and there are no leads on what the plot of the sequel will be. We will keep you up to date as more details about this film develop.
