King County District Court Judge Fa’amomoi Masaniai ordered NFL cornerback Richard Sherman to be released without bail on Thursday afternoon. However, Judge Fa’amomoi Masaniai did indicate that Sherman could be charged with the following crimes: criminal trespass, malicious mischief, resisting arrest and driving under the influence. In addition, prosecutors asked the judge for an update on the felony residential burglary charge that he was originally booked for. It appears that Sherman, his defense attorney and the prosecution will receive an update regarding that charge on Friday.
Sherman was not present at the hearing, but his wife, Ashely, spoke on his behalf. As she did in a prior statement to the Seattle Times, Sherman offered public support for her husband.
“I love and support my husband,” Ashley Sheman stated.
“I am committed to helping Richard get the support and care that he needs. Richard has always been a loving father and husband. And we are looking forward to seeing him at home with his family.”
Moving forward, Judge Fa’amomoi Masaniai provided regulations for Sherman’s release. He is not to contact his father-in-law or consume drugs or alcohol. The NFL cornerback’s next hearing is set for Friday at 2 p.m.
Judge says the law requires he air on side of release for a person's first offense. "I see Mr. Sherman is a pillar in this community, he's a business owner, he's a husband, he's a father… I'm gonna release Mr. Sherman."
