Despite not dropping a new project this year, Joyner Lucas has managed to have one hell of a year. Riding the success of his debut studio album in 2017, Joyner kicked off the year with rumors that he was working on a joint album with Chris Brown. While the two did produce two great records, the project did not come in 2018. Not long afterwards, Joyner made an appearance on Eminem’s surprise album, Kamikaze. To close out the year, Joyner Lucas made headlines with his brief, but entertaining beef with Tory Lanez. Not to mention, he picked up two Grammy nominations.
Given the success that he has had this year, Joyner Lucas is planning for an even better run in the new year. The first step towards success in the new year begins with reassessing his team. According to a tweet from Lucas earlier today, he has separated himself from Atlantic Records. In a tweet, Joyner wrote, “Did I forget to say I’m now 100% independent?” He later added, “I just wanted to be back on my independent wave.”
During his run on Atlantic Records, Joyner released his debut album and his infamous “I’m Not Racist” video. The rapper did make sure to note that he worked with great people during his time at Atlantic and that it’s all love.
