It is still unclear when Josh Taylor will return to the ring, but it is clear that his corner will look differently. Taylor has announced that he has parted ways with Ben Davison and enlisted Joe McNally as his lead trainer. The unbeaten champion shared the news on Instagram earlier this week.
“It’s a pleasure to officially announce that I’ve teamed up with and gonna be working with Joe McNally moving forward. I’m excited for this new chapter in my career and producing more great nights ahead,” he wrote on Instagram.
“All the best champ,” Davison replied.
In February, Taylor earned a controversial decision victory against Jack Catterall. Sitting ringside, the three judges delivered the following scores: 114-111 for Taylor, 113-112 for Taylor and 112-113 for Catterall. Adding to the controversy, Catterall landed 47 more punches over the course of 12 rounds. While Taylor has remained inactive for the last eight months and vacated several of his world titles, he has maintained that he’d like to fight Catterall again.
“I don’t think it was the wrong decision [against Catterall], but I want to shut everyone up. I want to prove that was an off night for me and that I’m one of the best fighters on the planet,” he said in June.
“Because of all the stick and abuse I’ve been getting, and the way Jack’s been too, mouthing off and moaning, I just want to shut his mouth. The single reason I’m staying at the weight is to shut him and everyone else up.”
