Major League Baseball has announced that Jorge Soler & Aristides Aquino were awarded Player of the Week (POTW) honors for their performances last week. The W.B. Mason POTW week awards are given to the leagues best players on a week-by-week basis. Coming off a week where Blue Jays rising star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and surging Mets starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard were named POTW, came the power heavy honorees in Soler and Aquino.
Soler Power and The Punisher.
It’s only fitting these two are your AL, NL Players of the Week.

In the American League, the Kansas City Royals outfielder Jorge Soler took home the honors for the slugfest he put on. It was a power heavy week where Soler hit six home runs as well as hitting .409/.552/1.273 for the Royals. Soler went yard in all three of the Royals wins this week as well as had two multi home run games on the week.
Soler has had a breakout year, with his impressive week, he has improved to 35 home runs on the season leaving him just three shy of the franchise record (38). The twenty-seven-year-old came over from Cuba to begin his MLB career with the Chicago Cubs where he spent three years before moving on to the Royals where he is in his third season.
For the National League POTW honors, the attention turns to Cincinnati Reds outfielder Aristides Aquino who was awarded the POTW nomination. Aquino is twenty-five-years-old, and joined the big league club for the first time this season just recently. Aquino smashed 6 home runs over the week, totaling 11 RBI with a .552/.560/1.348 line for the Reds.
Aquino most definitely earned his POTW honors during the Reds contest with the Pittsburgh Pirates where he smashed three home runs in one game. The question that remains when it comes to Aquino. Could he be recently traded Yasiel Puig’s replacement? With numbers like he put up this past week, definitely, fans can only hope his success continues.
