The Washington Wizards watched their season end at the hands of the top-seeded Toronto Raptors. Their fate was expected, given the glaring roster imbalance and seesaw-type play. Wizards point guard John Wall minces no words when asked what the team needs to do to improve for next season.
“Just got to add some pieces,” he said to NBC’s Chase Hughes. “A lot, to be honest. There’s a lot that we can use… I think it’s pretty obvious. I don’t need to point it out. I think the way the league is going, you need athletic bigs, you need scoring off the bench, you need all of those types of things. We don’t really have an athletic big. I mean, Ian [Mahinmi] is older. [Marcin Gortat] is older. They’re not athletic guys, but they do the little things that permit their game to help as much as possible.”
John Wall and Marcin Gortat have a rocky relationship, despite it allegedly being fixed. Gortat has been pretty vocal about potentially moving teams, so this is not a new revelation. An interesting note from Hughes is that Wall does not prefer to be a recruiter for potential free agents.
