John Cena has once again quietly paved his way onto the Hollywood scene. After his cinematic debuts in WWE films like ‘The Marine’ and ’12 Rounds’ back in the late 2000’s, Cena has been on a role (literally) with performances in Trainwreck and The Wall. Now, Cena is set to join the cast of a Transformers spinoff that will follow the story of the beloved ‘Bumblebee’:
John Cena has nabbed a lead role in the Transformers spinoff Bumblebee.
Hailee Steinfeld is leading the cast of Paramount’s new film, which will center on the yellow and black bot Bumblebee. The pic will feature a young cast including Jorge Lendeborg, Jason Drucker, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow, Ricardo Hoyos and Gracie Dzienny.
Fans of the Transformers franchise will know the bright yellow transformer known as ‘Bumblebee’ but this will take another spin on the characters story. The plot will be set in 1987 California where Bumbelee finds refuge in a junkyard where he is discovered by 18-year old Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld).Off of the success of their last movie, Transformers ‘The Last Knight’ raking in over $500 million worldwide, Paramount wants to keep pushing the momentum for the franchise. Travis Knight will be directing the film that is set to release on December 21st 2018 and will be produced by the regular monster production team of Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Michael Bay along with Stephen Spielberg. There’s no real indication as to what Cena’s character in the movie will be, but my guess is that he will definitely serve as some of the comedic relief in the film.
