Nearly two weeks removed from the first of two debates before Election Day, members of Congress and high-profile donors continue to call for President Joe Biden to end his campaign.
“If he’s the candidate, I’m going to support him, but I think that this is an opportunity to look elsewhere,” United States Representative Raúl Grijalva said.
“I represent the heart of a congressional district once represented by Lyndon Johnson. Under very different circumstances, he made the painful decision to withdraw…President Biden should do the same,” United States Representative Lloyd Doggett added.
It appears President Joe Biden has heard the criticism and he’s become frustrated with it. During a recent episode of Morning Joe, the President said, “I’m getting frustrated by the elites in the party.”
“I’m getting frustrated by the elites in the party, ‘Oh, they know so much more,’” Biden said.
“Any of these guys that don’t think I should run, run against me. Announce for president, challenge me at the convention.”
The Democratic National Convention is set to take place on August 19-22 in Chicago, Illinois. Biden is the presumptive presidential nominee, but recent polls from CNN and Reuters have found that Vice President Kamala Harris could defeat Donald Trump in a general election. However, Harris says she is “proud to be his running mate and looks forward to serving at [Biden’s] side for four more years.”
