Duke has landed the commitment of the first five-star in the class of 2020. Jeremy Roach, a five-star point guard out of Virginia is Duke’s first commit in the 2020 class. Roach, who is currently out for the year after tearing his ACL back in November. When healthy though Roach has helped Team USA win two gold medals for the U16 and U17 youth teams.

In addition to Roach’s time with Team USA in the summers, he also plays for Team Takeover on the AAU circuit. Roach will most likely step right in for Tre Jones after he likely leaves school following his sophomore year. The transition has a chance to be smooth as Roach has a game somewhat similar to Jones. Both guards are good defenders and have a good feel as playmakers.
Roach should have a chance to flourish around the abundance of talent Duke will more than likely bring in. The Blue Devils have taken over as the premier school for recruits that Kentucky held for a number of years. It is a pretty sure bet that Roach will be surrounded by a couple of other five-star players that will allow him to play a role similar to Tre Jones last year. Picking his spots, setting others up and being the “head of the snake” for Coach K’s defense. Coach K doesn’t look like his recruiting is slowing down anytime soon either as he gains the commitment of yet another five-star prospect.
