The Chiefs were desperate to add a wide receiver. The last time a Chiefs wide receiver caught a touchdown pass was December 8th 2013. It’s clear the Chiefs were willing to pay whatever price it took to bring Maclin to Kansas City. It is possible the Chiefs could have offered in the range of what Randall Cobb received after it was known Philadelphia was very aggressive in retaining his services. As of now no contract numbers have been released yet.
It appears now that Dwayne Bowe is a goner. Bowe represents a cap number of $14 million, a price far to step for a man who didn’t catch a touchdown pass during the entire 2014 season. Releasing Bowe would give the team an additional 5 million towards the salary cap.
As for Philly the Eagles all the sudden have a major need at the receiver position. The departing Jeremy Maclin may prompt Kelly to spend for a speedster such as Torrey Smith. Smith has made it be known he has played his last game in Baltimore and seeks more money elsewhere. Torrey could become a perfect fit for the high paced Eagles offense.
