It appears that Jeremy Lin is not done being a good Samaritan. The Brooklyn Nets point guard recently pledged one million dollars to his alma mater of Harvard. Now, he’s donating money to an even greater cause.
Lin has joined One Day’s Wages, an organization working to fight “extreme global poverty.” The point guard will pledge one game’s wage, as well as $100 per made three pointer this season to help this important cause.
Jeremy Lin’s focus as his fundraiser is girl empowerment, helping young women across the world who do not have access to education due to a variety of circumstances.
Lin explained his campaign on the ODW website:
I believe it’s important to raise awareness about social justice issues that have been swept under the rug. This is why I’m coming alongside One Day’s Wages, a movement to alleviate extreme global poverty, to do my part in raising awareness about the issues many girls face in pursuing their dreams.
Millions of girls across the globe are unable to get the education they need to provide for themselves and their families. This is due to unaffordable school fees, forced child marriage, lack of sanitary products when they reach puberty, and many other barriers. My hope is to shed some light on these issues, and invite you to join me in taking action.
Lin, who recently signed a new contract in order to join the Nets, is asking his fans to take part in the charity by donating seven dollars to his campaign or starting one of their own.
