U.S. Senator and Donald Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, is the latest public figure to publicly call for President Joe Biden to suspend his re-election campaign. However, he’s not stopping there. Not only does he want Biden to suspend his re-election campaign, but he also wants the President to resign immediately.
“Everyone calling on Joe Biden to ‘stop running’ without also calling on him to resign the presidency is engaged in an absurd level of cynicism,” Vance wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
“If you can’t run, you can’t serve. He should resign now.”
As mentioned in his initial statement, Vance is far from the only person to question Biden’s ability to fulfill his duties as President. The reasoning behind their statements are vastly different, but their message is similar. Senator Joe Manchin, U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett and several other lawmakers have called for President Biden to end his re-election campaign. Even former President Barack Obama has reportedly expressed “concerns” about Biden’s candidacy. Still, the President remains steadfast in his desire to seek another four years in the White House.
“Absolutely, the president is in this race,” President Joe Biden’s campaign chair, Jen O’Malley Dillon, told MSNBC.
“Joe Biden is more committed than ever to beat Donald Trump, and we believe on this campaign we are built for the close election that we are in, and we see the path forward.”
