To say that Jay-Z addressed a lot of matters on his collaborative album with Beyonce would be an understatement. Within the ten songs that make up Everything Is Love, Jay-Z touches on his marriage, fatherhood, adultery and his relationship with Kanye West. Lost in the many sensational topics addressed on the project, Jay-Z addressed his long awaited documentary that chronicles the death of Trayvon Martin. On Jay-Z and Beyonce’s “Black Effect”, Mr. Carter raps, “Since the Kalief doc, they’ve been at my neck/Y’all can tell ’em Trayvon is comin’ next/The SEC, the FBI or the IRS/I pass the alphabet boys like an eye test.”

Today, Jay-Z not only followed through on his promise, but he added in an extra gift as well. After receiving rave reviews at the Tribeca Film Festival, the Jay-Z produced documentary has received an official release date of July 30th. Along with the release date, Roc Nation also dropped a new trailer for the film, Rest In Power. The deeply emotional one minute trailer puts it all on the table for perspective viewers. In the sixty second clip, viewers hear the now infamous 9-1-1 call from the night of Martin’s death, interviews from both of Martin’s parents, interviews of local residents, new music from Black Thought and a cameo from Oklahoma City Thunder forward, Carmelo Anthony.
If the trailer is any indication of what the film will be, it is something that you will want to see. The documentary will be released on July 30th on Paramount Network.
