As a veteran on a young Milwaukee Bucks team last season, Jared Dudley had to do a lot of talking to get guys in the rights sports based on certain schemes. With more of a veteran team in Washington, he isn’t going to have to tell guys as much about where they are supposed to be or what they are supposed to be doing.
Washington has guys who have been around in the league and know what they are supposed to be doing at certain times. They already have defensive rotations down, which makes Dudley’s job a whole lot easier.
“Talking less. This is more of a veteran team. I talked a lot on court defensively especially about putting guys in the right positions and coverages. A younger team didn’t really know. They were very talented, skilled, and very long, but I think their basketball IQ, because they are just barely in the NBA not knowing, but someone like John Wall, these guys have been to the playoffs. They know what it is. I still gotta communicate. I don’t think it will be as much.”
“My role in the NBA, I’m a role player, I’m a pretty good three-point shooter, I move the ball, play hard defense, play smart, and take what the defense gives me. That’s going to be here on out and throughout the rest of my career.”
Dudley is just one of the great acquisitions Washington has made to improve the roster overall during the offseason. Along with Alan Anderson and Gary Neal, he is going to have to do his best to fill his role and help out where needed so the Wizards can make a long playoff run.
