Former Providence Friars senior guard Jared Bynum has announced that he has transferred to the Stanford Cardinal for next season. Bynum will use his extra year of college eligibility that was granted to players due to the impact that the Coronavirus had on the 2020-21 college basketball season. Bynum has been a key player for the Frirars for four seasons but will play his fifth season on the West Coast. He entered the transfer portal after Head Coach Ed Cooley left the program to become the Head Coach with the Georgetown Hoyas.

This past season as a senior for the Providence Friars, Jared Bynum averaged 10.0 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game. He pairs those numbers with a field goal percentage of 38.4 percent and a three-point percentage of 31.9 percent. Stanford Cardinal Head Coach Jerod Haase has long been considered to be on the coaching hot seat, but despite lackluster seasons has remained in the position. This year he brings in some promising young talent, paired with some returns, and now Bynum. Expectations will be higher this season and the program may need to make the 2024 NCAA Tournament for Haase to feel any kind of job security heading into next year’s offseason.
