Back in November, Variety revealed that Ex Machina actress Alicia Vikander was in negotiations for a role opposite James McAvoy (Victor Frankenstein). Of course, Vikander signed off on the deal, and at last, shooting is underway in Berlin.
The romance-thriller, which is being directed by Wim Wenders, is called Submergence and is based on the JM Ledgard novel of the same name. Eric Dignam (The Yellow Handkerchief) has penned the script.
“Submergence tells the story of a water engineer (McAvoy) suspected to be a British spy who is captured and held captive by Jihadist fighters in Somalia. Thousands of miles away a biomathematician (Vikander) is working deep under the Greenland Sea. A chance encounter months earlier saw them share a tumultuous love affair and in their time of need the two reminisce over their time together” (Screen Daily).
The shoot is scheduled to take place in a variety of places, including France, Germany, Spain, and Africa, and will wrap up in July. The film’s producers are Cameron Lamb for Lila 9th Productions and Neue Road MovieDritte Produktionen. Co-Producers are Morena Films and U Media.
