James Gunn is riding high following the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The film not only closes the popular trilogy, but it also serves as a fitting conclusion to his tenure with Marvel. Gunn is headed over to DC to help the studio build out its cinematic universe. Despite popular belief, he doesn’t feel that he is joining a rival team. In fact, Gunn feels that the belief that Marvel is feuding with DC is overblown.
“People have this weird belief that Marvel and DC hate each other or somehow are polar opposites,” Gunn said.
“But it’s just not the truth. I mean, listen, man, our job is the same. We want to get people into the theaters to see movies. That’s what matters. And I think that we work together to do that. And the more good Marvel movies are, the better it is for DC movies. The more good DC movies, the better it is for Marvel movies.”
While fans may believe that only one winner may emerge from this cinematic superhero battle, Gunn is under the impression that there is enough room in Hollywood for both studios to thrive.
“There’s not only one winner,” Gunn explained.
“There can be two winners because it matters who goes to see your movies and who enjoys ’em.”
