About a week and a half ago, Tom Holland announced the title for the upcoming Spider-Man sequel showing it off in an Instagram video as ‘Far From Home’. We later found out that the movie will be about Spider-Man traveling to Europe for the first time on-screen. Although this idea was something that Andrew Garfield was planning for the superhero, Holland will be taking his younger version of the web-slinger to fight crime in Europe. Supposedly this plan includes J.B Smoove.
The movie starts filming this summer and they are rounding out their choices for the cast and J.B Smoove has reportedly been cast in a lead role. There really is no guessing what role Smoove will be in but seeing as it is a lead role, it could be anything from J.Jonah Jameson to a villain that will play alongside Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio villain.
In my opinion, it is most likely the former. With this new Spider-Man taking on different interpretations of traditional characters from the Spidey comics like Mary Jane and even Peter Parker himself, it wouldn’t be much of a surprise to see Smoove handle the role of J.Jonah Jameson, who is the editor of the Daily Bugle, a newspaper that Peter Parker has worked for in many adaptations of the character. Jameson was previously played by J.K Simmons in the original Toby McGuire Spider-Man but Smoove would be a new and refreshing change to the character. One that many fans would approve of.
More details will appear as the film starts to shoot but we already know that it will be set in Europe with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man facing off against Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio and now J.B Smoove is attached to the title as well. After Spider-Man turned into dust in Infinity Wars, I can’t wait to see what we see in the sequel.
