Idris Elba is a man of many talents. This March, we’ll be able to see if one of those is directing. The British actor and Luther star will make his directorial debut in the Jamaican gangland film ‘Yardie’.
For those who don’t know ‘Yardie’ simply means a person from Jamaica, but in the film it means so much more.
It was unclear that Elba’s film would get a U.S. release date but now it’s official, thanks to Rialto Pictures receiving the U.S. rights to the project.
“I’m very happy that this movie is going to get play in the States. It falls in line with a very specific Afro Caribbean experience by way of Kingston, Jamaica and East London but plays right into the heart of the universal human experience of loss and trauma,” Elba said in a statement to the media on Thursday.
Right now, the movie is slated for a March 15th release date and it could make splashes in the box-office. We’ll see how the promotion for the film plays out throughout the next month.
