On Tuesday, June 10, 2025, Nickelodeon Animation and Paramount Animation Ramsey Naito reportedly unveiled a new slate of cast members for The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants. Isis “Ice Spice” Gaston, Regina Hall, George Lopez, Sherry Cola, and Arturo Castro are expected to join the cast. Ice Spice is also expected to appear on the film’s soundtrack when it arrives in December.
“SpongeBob and [his] friends [journey] to the depths of the ocean to face the ghost of the Flying Dutchman,” the film’s description reads, according to Scott Roxborough of The Hollywood Reporter.
Hall, Lopez, and company join a star-studded cast filled with many of the show’s original cast members. Tom Kenny, Mark Hamill, Carolyn Lawrence, Bill Fagerbakke, Rodger Bumpass, and Clancy Brown are expected to voice roles for the film. Derek Drymon, who has previously worked on SpongeBob SquarePants, Hey Arnold, CatDog, and Rocko’s Modern Life, will direct the movie while Pam Brady and Matt Lieberman write the script.
The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants is the sixth movie from the television series, following 2021’s The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run. Starring Tiffany Haddish, Calvin “Snoop Dogg” Broadus, and Keanu Reeves, the movie follows SpongeBob and Patrick venturing off to save Gary from King Poseidon. Due to the spread of COVID-19, the film was shifted from a theatrical release to a streaming-dominant release, earning $4.8 million at the box office.
