Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, is reportedly prepared to testify before the House Oversight and Accountability Committee on December 13, 2023.
“We have seen you use closed-door sessions to manipulate, even distort the facts and misinform the public,” attorneys representing Hunter Biden wrote in a letter to the House Oversight Committee.
“We therefore propose opening the door. If, as you claim, your efforts are important and involve issues that Americans should know about, then let the light shine on these proceedings.”
House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman James Comer agrees Biden should have the ability to testify in a public setting, but demands that he testify in a private setting beforehand.
“Hunter Biden is trying to play by his own rules instead of following the rules required of everyone else. That won’t stand with House Republicans,” Comer wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“We expect full cooperation with our subpoena for a deposition but also agree that Hunter Biden should have opportunity to testify in a public setting at a future date.”
The testimony of Hunter Biden is tied to allegations that President Joe Biden “set up over 20 shell companies…in a concerted effort to hide payments from foreign adversaries.”
“According to financial records obtained by the House Oversight Committee, the Biden family set up over 20 shell companies – most of which were created when Joe Biden was Vice President – in a concerted effort to hide payments from foreign adversaries,” a statement from the House Oversight and Accountability Committee reads.
“The Biden family, their business associates, and their companies received over $24 million from foreign nationals over the course of approximately five years – including millions of dollars from China, Russia, Ukraine, Romania, and Kazakhstan. The Bidens and their associates made complicated financial transactions to conceal the source and total amount of money they received from foreign nationals and companies.”
Despite the committee’s claim, there is reportedly no direct evidence that the President “was involved, and benefited from his family’s influence peddling schemes.”
