Disney is on a roll with live action reboots of classic films. The legendary film studio has put together live action remakes of Beauty and the Beast, The Jungle Book and Alice in Wonderland. In the near future, Disney will also welcome in live action reboots of classic films like The Lion King, Aladdin and Dumbo. With everything going on, Disney has decided to add another live action film to the mix. According to multiple reports, Disney is working to create a live action remake of The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Behind the scenes, David Henry Hwang has been attached to the project as the one to write the script. In addition, Josh Gad has been tapped as the producer with Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz handling the music. The rumored team behind the live action remake will look to rekindle the magic of the $325 million animated film from 1996. As seen before, the animated film follows the story of the hunchback, a bell-ringer at the Notre Dame Cathedral, who has a great friendship with the gypsy Esmeralda.
There’s no word on when this project could hit the big screen. Given the urgency of the Aladdin and The Lion King remake, it’s likely that this will not be available for public consumption in the near future.
