Prior to his untimely passing, Chadwick Boseman often told the story of how Denzel Washington and Phylicia Rashad financially supported him and other Howard University on a study abroad program years ago. For years, Rashad has worked to support dozens and dozens of students as they pursue their dreams at the historically Black university. This week, she moved into more of an official capacity at Howard.
Phylicia Rashad has been named the dean of the Howard University’s recently re-established college of fine arts. In this role, she will work closely with Howard University Provost Anthony K. Wutoh to fundraise for the program and develop the college into what it was once known as throughout the country. Over the years, Howard has proved thespians such as Rashad, Boseman, Taraji P. Henson, Anthony Anderson, Lance Gross, Laz Alonso and several others.
“It is a privilege to serve in this capacity and to work with the Howard University administration, faculty and students in reestablishing the College of Fine Arts,” Rashad said.
The award-winning graduate and Howard University graduate will officially return to the university on July 1.
