The Brooklyn Nets once reportedly heavily coveted the services of Dwight Howard with hopes they could build the NBA’s next super team. But that was back in the summer of 2012 and Howard eventually joined the Lakers as the Nets moved into a new era with aging superstars. Now, just about six years later, Dwight will finally get a chance to play at Barclays Center.
He’s reportedly going to be traded to the Nets from the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for Timofey Mozgov and two second-round picks.
Following comes from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN and Shams Charania of The Vertical on Yahoo Sports.
Charlotte is finalizing a deal to send Dwight Howard to the Brooklyn Nets for Timofey Mozgov, league sources tell ESPN. Nets will save $17M on deal in 2019-20 season, allowing them to create two max salary slots.

Dwight Howard played one season with the Charlotte Hornets after being traded before the 2017-18 season started. Howard actually had a solid season in Charlotte playing 81 games, averaging 16.6 points per game and 12.5 rebounds per game with 1.6 blocks in about 30 minutes per game. It will be Howard’s third different team since leaving the Houston Rockets in the summer of 2016 to join the Atlanta Hawks on a three-year, $70 million deal.
Mozgov at this point is just a big contract to trade around. He was also dealt last summer, alongside D’Angelo Russell and the 27th pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, in a deal that allowed the Los Angeles Lakers to clear some salary cap space. Mozgov signed a four-year, $64 million deal in 2016 and only played in 31 games last season.
