It does not appear that voters in the state of Georgia will be able to see Raphael Warnock and Herschel Walker debate twice before early voting begins on October 17, 2022. The two U.S. Senate candidates in the state of Georgia were reportedly set to debate on October 13, 2022 and October 14, 2022 in Savannah, Georgia. Instead, it appears that the two candidates will only debate on October 14, 2022 at 7 p.m. in the state’s capital city. In addition, Warnock will also appear in a debate with libertarian candidate Chase Oliver on October 16, 2022 as well.
“The event was intended to provide Central Georgia voters with access to all the candidates before the November 8th election. However, both Warnock and Walker agreed to a debate in Savannah that will be broadcast statewide on Oct. 14. Our partner Georgia Public Broadcasting will also offer voters the opportunity to see Warnock and Oliver debate before a statewide audience on Oct. 16,” Center for Collaborative Journalism Director Debbie Blankenship said, per The Telegraph.
“In light of these other voter access opportunities, Mercer’s Center for Collaborative Journalism and its partners will not move forward with a debate hosting two of the three candidates on the ballot.”
The first debate will not be open to the general public, but voters across the state do have access to the ballot box beginning October 17, 2022 for early voting. Election Day is set to take place on November 8, 2022.
