Not long ago, H.E.R. spoke to Jem Aswad and Jazz Tangcay of Variety about her future endeavors. The California native was quick to point out that she was interested in taking her music to new levels, but she also noted that she wanted to try new things like on-screen and voice acting.
“There is so much I want to do. People don’t really get to see my comedic and fun side, except for when I’m impersonating my aunt. But I definitely want to do a lot more voice-overs, and comedy, but also some serious roles,” she said.
“I’m trying to do it all, I know. Whatever it is, one thing at a time. I’m gonna get there.”
Well, it looks like she’s well on her way there. The Academy Award winner has landed a role as Squeak, a waitress who ascends to become a promising singer. She will join In The Heights Star Corey Hawkins who recently landed the role of Harpo.
Behind the scenes, Black Is King director Blitz Bazawule will lead the ship. Also, Quincy Jones, Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg will work as executive producers.
Production for the project has begun and Warner Bros. is aiming for a December 2023 release.
