This month, all eyes in the heavyweight division are locked on Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk as they fight for the unified heavyweight title in Saudia Arabia. From there, Tyson Fury may elect to fight the winner or truly retire from the sport for good. As that storyline plays out, other contenders in the division are making moves to push for a title shot. Earlier this week, Joe Joyce and Joseph Parker reportedly came to terms on an agreement for a September 24, 2022 bout in the U.K. The winner of the fight will likely become the mandatory challenger for the WBO Heavyweight Championship.
“On Saturday September 24, the fans in Manchester will see the very best of me. And Joe Joyce will see exactly why I will become the heavyweight champion of the world again with BOXXER [his promoter],” Joseph Parker said.
“I am working hard with my trainer Andy Lee, everything is going smoothly and I truly feel great. I have waited patiently to get this fight on and let me tell you now, the ‘Juggernaut’s’ journey ends right here. He has nowhere to run.”
Joseph Parker will come into next month’s bout with a six-fight win streak. Most recently, he scored back-to-back decision victories against Derek “War” Chisora. As for his opponent, Parker has an undefeated record of 14-0 with 13 knockouts. In November 2020, he scored an upset stoppage victory against Daniel Dubois before going on to defeat Carlos Takam and Christian Hammer.
