Yet again, the eyes of the world will be locked on a ring occupied by Claressa Shields. After defeating Ema Kozin in February, the Michigan native seeks to take the undisputed middleweight crown as well. According to Ben Shalom of BOXXER, both Claressa Shields and Savannah Marshall have signed for a unification bout in early September.
“We’re ready to go,” Shalom told IFL TV.
“… I can’t wait.”
Shalom nor BOXXER has provided details regarding an exact date or venue. However, Shields has taken to Twitter to repeatedly state that she has agreed to fight on September 3, 2022 and not September 10, 2022.
“[You’re] gonna be big mad! I know you ain’t want this fight [Savannah Marshall], but you talked yourself into an a** whooping! No one [was watching] when I los[t] a very close fight to you in the amateurs, but the entire world is gonna see me win now,” Shields added.
Shields and Marshall were originally scheduled to fight in July, but the WBO middleweight champion suffered an injury that required surgery. As a result, the fight was pushed back two months.
As for Shields, the Michigan native plans to fight Marshall in September and return to mixed martial arts in November as a member of the Professional Fighters League. She split her first two fights as a mixed martial artists and plans to transition into the sport fully next year as she competes for the million dollar prize in 2023.
