The Miami Heat had a whirlwind of an offseason. They brought back star center Hassan Whiteside but lost franchise star Dwyane Wade. More than ever in the past few seasons, the Heat have questions entering the season.
One of those questions will involve the power forward position. Chris Bosh’s health is a massive question. Behind him, the Heat have recently-signed Derrick Williams and always-present Udonis Haslem.
Miami seems to not be sold on that group and as such, they are bringing back Josh McRoberts even after attempting to trade him. Following from Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald:
Though he was mentioned in trade rumors previously, the Heat has indicated to Josh McRoberts’ camp that he’s in the team’s plans for this season, his agent said, adding Miami called to go over his offseason training and make sure everyone is on the same page.
McRoberts will make $5.8 million this season and has a $6 million player option for 2017-18.
But the Heat will need to dump someone with a guaranteed deal if it wants to keep point guard Briante Weber. Free agent pickups this summer cannot be dealt until Dec. 15.
This shouldn’t be much of a surprise. McRoberts is a talented player. If Bosh is unable to start the season, he’s automatically the Heat’s best power forward.
It is a bit surprising that the Heat were unable to find a good trade for Josh McRoberts, though he has injury woes of his own. In the end, it might work out better for Miami.
