Chris Bosh hasn’t suited up for the Miami Heat since February 9th due to an issue with blood clots which forced him to skip participating in the 2016 NBA All-Star Game. In that time, the Miami Heat made the playoffs but were ultimately bounced in the second round after a seven game series against the Toronto Raptors ended with the Raps dominating at home. The Heat just could not fight through the loss of Hassan Whiteside and on a larger scale, they never got over the loss of Chris Bosh.
Bosh wanted to come back to the team and help with their stretch run through the playoffs. An All-Star forward who can stretch the floor and play solid defense definitely could have helped the Heat at least have a fighters chance in game 7 but alas, they fell short. Not enough weapons to keep up with the Raptors.
Without a clear future for Bosh after declaring he would miss the remainder of the 2016 NBA Playoffs a couple of weeks ago, the Miami Heat now go into a summer with a couple of big names who would gladly fill that role Bosh currently holds when he’s on the court for the Heat. A role that the Miami Heat fear Bosh might have to relinquish by no choice of his own.
Following from Brian Windhorst of ESPN.
Between now and this fall, Bosh and the Heat are going to have to reach a decision about what to do about his future. And there may end up being a complex and gut-wrenching disconnect between heart and mind.
There is a fear within the Heat organization that Bosh’s condition will prevent him from ever being cleared to play by team doctors, several sources said. It’s a result of exhaustive consultations with specialists. Something this big and delicate, the sides have gone deep attempting to understand all the options.
It’s forced everyone to confront the possibility of Bosh ultimately being forced into a medical retirement.
