Disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein has been found guilty of two of five possible charges. A jury found him guilty of 3rd degree rape and criminal sexual activity. However, he was found not guilty on two charges of predatory sexual assault and 1st degree rape. Weinstein faces up to 25 years in prison for criminal sexual activity and four years of probation for 3rd degree rape. After the verdict was announced, the former Hollywood titan was taken out of the courtroom in handcuffs. Shortly thereafter, Me Too issued an official statement.
“Today, a jury confirmed what we all know: Harvey Weinstein committed sexual assault. This wouldn’t have been possible without the voices of the silence breakers in and outside of the courtroom, the survivors who courageously testified, and the jurors who, despite an unrelenting and unethical defense strategy, voted to find an unremorseful Harvey Weinstein guilty,” Me Too Chief Communications Officer Denise Beek stated.
Weinstein will stand for sentencing next month in New York.
