It’s safe to say that Harry Styles is one of the biggest artists in the world today. Earlier this week, his hit single, “As It Was,” became the first song to spend half of the year in of the top three spots on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Not to mention, his latest album, Harry’s House, moved more than 500,000 units in its first week and he also sold out 15 consecutive shows at Madison Square Garden this summer.
“Selling out 15 consecutive nights at Madison Square Garden is a massive accomplishment and reinforces Harry Styles as one of the most impactful artists of his generation,” New York Knicks Owner Jim Dolan said.
Simply put, he holds a bit of cultural cahcé with a younger demographic. Therefore, it moved the needle when he placed one of Beto O’Rourke’s campaign stickers on his guitar during a recent show in Austin, Texas. Making the matter more of a big deal, Beto O’Rourke’s daughter happened to be in the crowd as he performed.
This is not the first time that Beto O’Rourke has received a bit of celebrity support while running for office in Texas. Prior to receiving support from Harry Styles, four-time NBA Champion LeBron James and Texas native Beyoncé offered their support for the emerging politician in the past.
Unfortunately, the public displays of support that O’Rourke has received from Harry Styles, LeBron James, Beyoncé and others have not been enough for him to earn enough votes to hold the position of governor or senator in Texas. In 2018, Ted Cruz beat him out by less than 2% of the vote. In 2020, he failed to beat out Joe Biden in his first presidential campaign. This time around, Five Thirty Eight projects that O’Rourke is approximately seven points behind incumbent Greg Abbott in his bid to become governor.
