Y’all ready to start gossipin’ again? Well, you better be because Gossip Girl is coming back. Warner Bros. and AT&T announced Wednesday that the series would be getting rebooted on their forthcoming streaming service, HBO Max.
Gossip Girl originally ran from 2007-2012 and detailed the lives of upscale NYC teens as they navigated growing up in the city. The entire series was narrated by the titular ‘Gossip Girl’ who, in the world of the show, ran an anonymous blog that was THE go-to place for scandalous breaking news.
The new series will pick up eight years after the original ended. This version of Gossip Girl will feature a new generation of NYC teens with a new ‘Gossip Girl’ blog to turn to. The updated take will apparently explore how the changing role of technology has affected growing up. Specifically, it will look at the impact social media has had on the Gossip Girl world. No release or casting info has been shared yet. But, we do know that the first rebooted season will feature 10, hour-long episodes.
HBO Max has made quite the splash since it was first announced. Alongside the Gossip Girl reboot, the platform will have a number of intriguing original series. Like, The Flight Attendant starring Kaley Cuoco, or that Dune spin-off from Denis Villeneuve. The streaming service also has much more content than expected from networks such as TBS, Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, and many more.
HBO Max will have a limited beta near the end of 2019. A full launch of the platform is expected sometime in the first few months of 2020.
