Tensions are high at Google as the pandemic continues to get worse.
The Verge has reported that Google employees could be fired if they remain unvaccinated against COVID-19. According to a memo obtained by The Verge, employees of the tech giant had until December 3 to upload proof of vaccination or receive an exemption. Any employee that doesn’t follow the company-wide mandate could be placed on paid leave beginning January 13. After the 30-day paid administrative leave period is complete, employees may be placed on six-month unpaid leave and face termination.
“As we’ve stated before, our vaccination requirements are one of the most important ways we can keep our workforce safe and keep our services running. We’re committed to doing everything possible to help our employees who can get vaccinated do so, and firmly stand behind our vaccination policy,” Google spokesperson Lora Lee Erickson told The Verge.
As for Google’s in-person work environment, it is unclear when employees will return to the office. The Verge suggests that the company is waiting to see how the omicron variant of the virus affects society as the year comes to a close.
