Gone Girl has taken the No. 1 spot at the box office this week!
The mystery-thriller starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike, tells the story of Nick and Amy Dunne as Amy suddenly disappears under mysterious circumstances.
The film earned $38m its debut weekend, barely beating horror flick Annabelle, which debuted at number two with $37.2m.
Denzel Washington’s action film The Equalizer dropped to the third spot taking in $19m, while the Boxtrolls sits at number four.
The Maze Runner rounds out the top five, taking in about $12m.
The US weekend box office top 10 for October 5 (studio estimates, all figures in US dollars) is as follows:
