“They hit (Floyd) with the fentanyl. If you look, the guy’s knee wasn’t even on his neck like that,” Ye said.
“They said he screamed for his mama; mama was his girlfriend. It’s in the documentary.”
Ye’s statements have elicited a response from Floyd’s family. Attorney Lee Merritt recently tweeted that Ye’s comment “civilly undermines & diminishes the Floyd family’s fight.”
“While one cannot defame the dead, the family of George Floyd is considering suit for Kanye’s false statements about the manner of his death,” Merritt tweeted.
“Claiming Floyd died from fentanyl not the brutality established criminally and civilly undermines & diminishes the Floyd family’s fight.”
Merritt and Floyd’s family may not stop at a single tweet condemning Ye’s comments. The attorney recently said that Floyd’s brother, Philonise, reached out to him and asked if legal action could be taken to prevent Ye from making any additional statements about the matter. In addition, Merritt indicated that he may explore similar legal options for alt-right Candance Owens.
