The Chicago Bulls were among the most active teams in the offseason. They parted ways with career Bulls Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah. Then, they added Rajon Rondo and Heat-lifer Dwyane Wade.
While the Bulls were able to add name power, there are certainly questions about how their new roster will work together. Head coach Fred Hoiberg has a simple solution, if you can call it that (via K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune):
“Great players always figure it out,” Hoiberg said. “It has to be about one thing, and that’s winning. Based on who has the hot hand on any given night, you play through that guy, and the rest of the team plays off him.”
That…that doesn’t sound like a coach who really knows how to make this work.
The issue with the Bulls hasn’t been about who will have the ball in their hands the majority of the time. That can easily be figured out and solved.
The issue is that there is almost literally no spacing to be found on this team. For their careers, Rondo, Wade, and Butler have shot 29, 28, and 33 percent, respectively. Those are the three starting perimeter players who cannot shoot from deep.
It’s difficult to envision even a league average offense being created from this hodgepodge of players. Fred Hoiberg has his hands full.
