In Frank Vogel’s tenure with the Indiana Pacers, after taking over for Jim O’Brien midway through the 2010-11 season, he amassed a 250-181 record with a team that overachieved at times, fell back on some hardships but picked themselves back up and made a return to the playoffs.
In his near six seasons under the helm as the Pacers lead man, Vogel took Indiana to playoffs five times. He only missed out last year because his star, Paul George, missed just about the entire season due to a broken leg suffered before the season started but even then the Pacers just barely missed out on making the playoffs.
Yet despite his success, team president Larry Bird believed that it was time to move on from Vogel.
Bird said the following during a press conference earlier today.
Bird: "I’ve decided that it’s time for a new voice around here… This is one of the toughest things I’ve done."

Larry Bird: "Frank’s not getting fired, his contract is up and I just made the decision not to renew it."

Bird said Frank Vogel is "a great man. A great leader. He will do fine. He’s the real deal. He’s a good man."
