It’s only been a few days, but it’s safe to say that Kanye West’s newest project is the main focus of the music industry today. West has received rave reviews from the random Twitter user to the veteran music writer. Craig Jenkins of Vulture wrote, “Ye is sweet but haunting in the way that Elliott Smith songs are rich in melody but also chillingly stark. This is the quietest album in the entire Kanye West catalog. Emptiness is a fascinating new direction for an artist known to jam a dozen voices into a single record.” However, others like Eric Renner Brown of Billboard called the album a “missed opportunity for redemption”. Regardless of whether many liked to project or hated it, the fact still remains that many people listened to it repeatedly before forming their opinion. In the words of Mr. West, “Everybody feels a way about K, but at least you feel something.” Nowhere did West’s words ring more true than on the charts.
Following the release of the album, West’s album instantly went to number one on the Apple Music streaming charts and his seven songs were the top seven songs on Apple Music’s streaming charts. Today, we got the real numbers for the album. West’s newest and possibly most anticipated project since MBDTF is projected to move between 175,000-190,000 units in its first week. This is a major improvement from West’s last project, The Life of Pablo, which failed to reach 100,000 units its first week after being exclusive to Tidal. In all likelihood, this will give West another number one album to add to his collection. What did you think of the album? Let us know.
