After teasing fans earlier yesterday by releasing the first poster for the upcoming Dark Phoenix, Fox released the first full trailer for the film.
The trailer doesn’t reveal very much new information, Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) has some connection to a darker force, the Phoenix, that begins to take over her mind and gives her nearly unlimited power. Dark Phoenix will explore Jean’s childhood as much of the trailer is devoted to showing her as a child.
The trailer also hints that Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) is partially responsible for the Phoenix’s emergence. Erik Lehnsherr (Michael Fassbender) has apparently given up his Magneto persona and seems to be living in exile somewhere. One of the major questions surrounding both the film is the identity of Jessica Chastain’s mysterious character, Smith. Chastain is featured in the trailer and seems to be manipulating Jean into unleashing the Phoenix.

James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Tye Sheridan, and Sophie Turner are all set to reprise their roles as the young X-Men following 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse. Simon Kinberg wrote the screenplay and is making his directorial debut after serving a writer and producer in the past.
Dark Phoenix is the second adaptation of the acclaimed ‘Dark Phoenix Saga’ storyline from the comics. It was previously adapted as part of the much-maligned X-Men: The Last Stand. Fans were happy to see the story put to film but were disappointed in the little screen time devoted to the story.
Dark Phoenix is set to hit theaters on February 14, 2019.
